FLYER 

Description:

5-round, 2-day Swiss tournament in three sections (1800+, U1800, U1200). Ratings based on March supplement. Unrated players must register for the Premier (1800+) section. Unrated scholastic (K-6) players may register for the Premier (1800+) or K-6 U800 section. Tournament is open to all ages and skill levels.

 

Sections:      

Premier (1800+), U1800, U1200: 5/SS, 2-day schedule.
Scholastic (K-6 / U800): 
Two separate 1-day tournaments (Sat/Sun); 3 Double Rounds (play each opponent twice, once as white and once as black).

 

Equipment:

Chess sets & boards provided for tournament play. Chess clocks provided for Premier & U1800 only.

 

Entry Fees:  

Premier: (1800+): $75 (Add $25 if 1600-1799), U1800: $65 (Add $20 if under 1200),

U1200: $55; Scholastic: $25 each day or $40 for both days.

Late Fee: +$10 after 2/16, +$20 onsite

GM, IM, FM, WGM, WIM, WFM Free Entry! US Chess 2200+ entry fee returned if schedule completed.

You may play up one section only.

Unrated players must play in the Premier section. Unrated players with an online rating who wish to play in a lower section may email southernarizonachess@gmail.com with a link to their profile for review.                      

 

Register:      

US Chess membership is required for all sections. Annual membership available at uschess.org.

If you have not joined US Chess or renewed your membership by March, please renew onsite through SACA before the 1st round. Players that cannot show proof of paid membership before the 1st round will not be paired.

Registration: online at https://www.kingregistration.com/event/2024TucsonOpen, or on site.

 

On Site Registration:  

Sat. & Sun. 8:30-9:15 am. Registrations after 9:15 am may receive a ½ point bye for round 1 and be paired for round 2.

There will be a $5 processing fee for any refunds (must be requested before 8 pm Friday, 3/1).

 

Schedule:     

Premier, U1800, U1200: Time control: G/75 + 30 inc.
2-day: Sat. 10a, 2p, 5:30p; Sun. 10a, 2p.

Scholastic: Round 1 at 10am, then as available. Time control: G/25; d/5.

 

Byes: ½ point byes (2 max.) are available for all rounds if requested prior to start of round two.

 

All sections: Please arrive by 9:40 am for pairings and announcements. There is no tournament check-in.

 

Prizes:           

Premier ($$Gtd.): $250 - $150 - $100; ($$b/4) Top U2000 $75.
U1800: ($$Gtd.): $160 - $80; ($$b/4) Top U1500 $40
U1200: Trophies to top 4.
Scholastic: Trophy to 1st – 3rd (each day). Special prize for best score across both days of scholastics.
