The Tulane Chess Club, in collaboration with Downriver Chess, presents the Second Annual Tulane Quick Championship!
Tournament details: Six round, two-section, swiss system, G/15;i10, USCF quick-rated tournament. Top section FIDE rated and governed by FIDE Laws of Chess.
Date: Saturday, April 19, registration 9:15 AM - 9:45 AM, first round pairs at 9:45 AM. Please do not enter the tournament hall prior to 9:15 AM.
Prize fund: Prize fund is $750 b/50. $200 will be added to the prize fund for every ten entries above 60. Prize fund breakdown as follows:
1st in open, $400
2nd in open, $200
1st in U1400, $250
2nd in U1400, $150
Sections: Sections include open and U1400. Sections may be altered at TD discretion to better balance entrants. Open section FIDE-rated.
Round times: 10:00 AM, 11:20 AM, 12:30 PM, [meal break] 2:30PM, 3:40PM, 4:50PM, prizes at 6:00PM. Round times are tentative and subject to change.
Venue: The Qatar Ballroom, on the second floor of the Lavin-Bernick Center at Tulane University.
Parking: Parking permits are not required in most parking zones on Tulane University campus during the weekend. For ease, we recommend using the Diboll Garage. Diboll Garage is a short walk from the Lavin-Bernick Center and has plenty of space available for our attendees. Consult the annotated parking map here.
Pairing: The TDs will assign you to your section. Highest of quick and regular rating will be used. If you are paired in a lower section but would like to play in the open, please indicate that upon registration. You may check your section upon registration. Unrated players are automatically placed in the open. Unrated players may play in the U1400 but will not be prize eligible.
Eligibility: $30 entry fee if purchased by 4/12/24. $35 if by 4/17/25. $40 after and same day. Capacity limited to the first 120 players, pre-register to guarantee your entry. Current USCF membership required. Players in the open section will automatically obtain a FIDE membership at no additional cost.
University students: use code UNISTUDENT for $5 off entry price. Student ID to be verified at check in. Limited amount of free entries reserved for students of Tulane University. Contact Carter Williams for details.
Bye policy: Two 0.5 point byes available upon request, must be made prior to pairing round four in non-emergency situations. Bye requests cannot be cancelled following the start of round four.
Tiebreaks: Cash prizes to be split among all tied entrants.
Refunds: Refunds allowed up to thirty minutes before round one, minus a small card-processor service fee (5-6%).
