Students can only play in a section for their specific current grade (2023 Spring semester). Students in the sections beginning with "K" may play in any section up to that section's upper limit, in grade or rating. Students who qualify for the Under sections may play up in the Championship Section of the same grades section. Unrated players may play in any section (Under or Championship) allowed for their grades.
* A student attending 6th Grade in an Elementary (K-6) School must enter an Elementary School Section (K-5/6). If a 6th Grader wins the Elementary School (K-5/6) Championship, that player will not be eligible fo represent Texas at the Rockefeller because of US Chess National Invitational rules. In that situation, the player will compete in a play-off (details to be announced soon) against the Middle School (6-8) Championship winner, to determine the Texas representative for the Barber. If the winner of the Elementary School Championship is in 5th grade of below, there will be no such playoff. Only those players going to school in an Elementary School, K-6 only, are eligible to play in that section. Except for those, all other 6th graders must compete in a Middle School section. TCA will review entries for all 6th graders in order to verify section eligibility.
