Winter Physics/Math Chess Scholastic Tournament 2023

Basic Information: Tournament will be five-round, Accelerated Swiss-System events. Games held at Cardwell Hall on Kansas State University campus (https://www.k-state.edu/maps/buildings/CW/)(1228 N M.L.K. Jr. Dr, Manhattan, KS 66506) (Parking is located in the lots north and west of the building free on weekends.). Pairings will be posted at the check in desk on the first floor by the main offices. Games will be held on the second floor. No team component to the tournament. Scholastic games may be rated by USCF is both players are USCF and requested in advance to do so. We reserve the right to combine sections in order to provide the best tournament for everyone, including with the other tournament. Food will be available for purchase.

Schedule:

 Check in: 8:00 – 8:45 AM, Round 1 will be paired at 8:45AM so that we can start at 9AM. Each round will start soon after the conclusion of all games with a break for lunch. Awards will be given at the end of the final round. Up to 15 individuals in each division (with a minimum score of 3.5),

Players may request a single half-point bye for any round with advanced notice to the round.

Time Control: All moves must be completed in 30 minutes, with a 5-second delay per move starting from move 1.

Entry Fee: $5 for advanced registration prior to 12/9/23. $10 after 12/9/23 and at the door.

KCA membership required. We reserve the right to combine sections in order to provide the best tournament for everyone, including with the other tournament. Food will be available for purchase.

 Check in: 8:00 – 8:45 AM, Round 1 will be paired at 8:45AM

Rd1: 9 AM,

Lunch

Rd2: 12:30 PM,

Rd3: 3 PM,

Rd4: 5:30 PM.

Open section - open to all players. 

U1400 section - open to those rated under 1400 on the official November USCF rating list.

Entry Fee:  Open and U1400:  $20 with advance registration by 12/9, $30 at the door. 

Prize Fund: (based on 20 players in Open or U1400 prizes may scale with number of entries) 

Open: 1st $100  2nd $50  3rd $25

U1400: 1st $60  2nd $30  3rd $15
