2025 US Open Senior Invitational Tournament Qualifier (in Madison, WI !)

SPECIAL NOTES

The WCA Veterans is held in conjunction with the Wisconsin Junior Open, but played in a separate room. For more information, contact Steve Erbach. The Wisconsin Senior Champion will be eligible to participate in the 2025 John T. Irwin National Tournament of Senior State Champions at the US Open in Madison, WI, July 2025. If a tie exists among those desiring to participate in the event, a series of playoff matches will be held on Sunday night beginning 30 minutes after the last game among the qualifiers is concluded. Format is two G/30, if still tied two G/15, then G/10, then G/5.

FORMAT

The WCA Veterans Tournament is open to all players age 18 and over. The highest-finishing Wisconsin entrant age 50 and over will receive a trophy and the title of 2024 Wisconsin Senior Champion. Players must be members of the US Chess Federation. US Chess membership may be purchased at site. Wisconsin Chess Association (WCA) membership is included in your entry. PLAYING SITE

The Manitowoc Holiday Inn, 4601 Calumet Ave., Manitowoc, WI, at the intersection of I-43 and US-151. Guest rooms are $99 for a single night, or $139 for two nights. (The usual hotel tax is extra.) This rate is only available until Monday, October 28th! These room rates include a full breakfast buffet. Reservations: (920) 682-6000. You must mention CHESS.

REGISTRATION

Players may register in advance online at kingregistration.com. Late registrations accepted at the site from 8:45-9:30 AM on Saturday, November 9. Please bring your chess clock. SCHEDULE The 2024-2025 WCA Veterans Tournament is a five-round Swiss-System event. Rounds are at 10:15 AM, 2:30 PM, and 7:15 PM Saturday; Sunday rounds at 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM. The time control is Game in 90 minutes with a 30 second increment. One half-point bye is available for round 1, 2, 3 or 4 if requested in advance.
ENTRY FEES

If received by Tuesday, November 5th, the early entry fee is $42.75. After November 5th, entry fee is $10 more.

If you pre-register but then cannot play, your entry fee (minus King Registration processing costs) will be refunded only if you notify the tournament director by 9:30 AM on November 9th.

PRIZES

The $1,350 prize fund for the Veterans Tournament is guaranteed:

1st Place $400, 2nd $275, 3rd $150, 1st A $125, 1st B $115, 1st C $105, 1st D $95, 1st E/Unr $85

Trophy to the top Wisconsin Senior (50+)

All prizes will be awarded at the site after the final round. In case of ties, the Wisconsin Senior trophy will be awarded based on Solkoff, Cumulative, Sum of Opponent’s Cumulative and Sonneborn-Berger tie-break systems.
