2024 TEXAS QUICK CHESS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
A US CHESS AND TEXAS CHESS ASSOC. SANCTIONED STATE CHAMPIONSHIP EVENT!
6 rounds of G/25,d3 on Saturday Nov. 30th. One section. USCF rated for Quick Chess only. This tournament will not affect your regular rating.
Quick Chess is in between Blitz and Regular Chess. Keeping score (notation) is not required in Quick Chess!
QUALIFICATIONS: All chess players, regardless of residence, are welcome as long as they meet the membership requirements. You must have an unexpired USCF and Texas Chess Association membership in good standing on the day of the tournament. Please note, however, that while residents of other states may participate, and win cash prizes, state champion titles are for Texas residents only.
BYES: Every player is entitled to a single half-point bye if requested before the beginning of round 1. After that time, all requested byes will be for zero points. All last round byes are zero point byes.
SECTIONS: Just one open section, accelerated pairings may be used. The December Rating Supplement will be used for pairings and for determination of the Class State Championship certificates.
SCHEDULE: Round 1, 9:30-10:30am; Round 2, 10:45-11:45am; Round 3, noon to 1pm; Lunch Break; Round 4, 2-3pm; Round 5, 3:15-4:15pm; Round 6, 4:30-5:30pm.
CAPACITY: Limited to 72, so register early, it might sell out. It is a State Championship event after all.
ENTRY FEES: $45 by Nov. 20th, $55 by Nov. 26th, $65 thereafter. Poison Pawn members use your $10 off coupon.
CANCELLATION: You may cancel up to 24 hours before the beginning of round 1 and get a refund of what you paid minus $15, or you may apply the entire amount towards a future entry fee.
PRIZES: Overall 1st place - the title of "2024 Texas Quick Chess State Champion", a trophy, and $250 guaranteed. Overall 2nd place $175, and overall 3rd place $100 based on 25 paid entries. All 3 cash prizes increased proportionally if more than 25 entries. All cash prizes paid via PayPal. In case of a tie for first place the trophy will be awarded using standard USCF tiebreakers: Modified Median, Solkoff, Cumulative, Cumulative Opponent's score. HOWEVER, the others who tie for first will get certificates designating them "2024 Texas Quick Chess State Co-Champion". Also, CLASS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP CERTIFICATES AWARDED TO TOP SCORE IN CLASS A (1999-1800), CLASS B (1799-1600), C (1599-1400), D (1399-1200), & E (1199 & lower). No tie breaks, if 2 or more tie for top score in a class they will each get a certificate declaring them the "2024 Texas Quick Chess State Co-Champion" of that Class!
CLOCKS, SETS & BOARDS: Please bring your own if you can, there might be enough equipment at The Studio but depending on the turnout there might not be, and Poison Pawns club members get first dibs on those. Know how to set your clock to G/25,d3!! It must not be set for the 'typical' G/25,d5 because that would make the game dual rated and this tournament is strictly QUICK CHESS!

WHERE: THE HOUSTON CHESS STUDIO, Houston’s only ‘brick and mortar’ chess venue, is dedicated to providing a quality, high tech, chess playing experience for players of all levels, and their parents. Centrally and conveniently located at 250 Patton St., Suite H, Houston TX 77009. Just inside North Loop 610 and just 2 blocks off North I-45. There are 3 restaurants in the same strip center as The Studio: The Red Hot Noodle (Asian), Subway, and Patron Pizza. Several others are within walking distance. Plenty of FREE parking.
SCANNING: All players are subject to being scanned (“wanded”) in order to help prevent cheating.
