AIHR and HRCA are partnering to run a chess competition in conjunction with India Fest!

Sections: .  There are four sections available for children of all ages and abilities. Capacity is 90 players.

  • Junior Rookie (students in grades Pre-K through 5 with limited or no experience at chess tournaments, no US Chess Federation membership required)
  • Senior Rookie (students in grades 6-12 with limited or no experience at chess tournaments, no US Chess Federation membership required)

  • Novice (students in grades Pre-K through 12 with US Chess Federation memberships and Quick OTB ratings below 500)

  • Open (students in grades Pre-K through 12 with US Chess Federation memberships and Quick OTB ratings 500 and up)

Time Control:    The time control is G/20; d0

  • This means each player has 20 total minutes to complete their moves, with no "delay" (grace period) or "increment" (time added per move).  Games can last a maximum of 40 minutes.  We will play four rounds using the "Swiss" system, which is similar to a bracket system.  This is NOT an elimination event.  You will play all four rounds (unless given a bye for one round for an uneven number of players).

Awards:

  • Trophies will be awarded to the top three players in each of these four sections. Trophies for 1st place in each section will be presented on stage at India Fest.  Other trophies will be available for pickup at India Fest.  There are no additional awards (medals, ribbons) for this event, and no team awards.

Equipment Provided:

  • Boards, sets, and some clocks are provided. Notation is not required in any section for quick time controls.

Schedule:

  • After Round 1, pairings will be "ASAP" -- as soon as all games in a round conclude, players will be paired and begin the next round.
