David’s 30th Birthday Tournament

David is turning the big 3-0 this February, and wants to include the local chess community in the celebrations (with support of the Murray State Chess Club). Notice, things such as time control, entry fee, and players receiving a complimentary gift are themed around 30!

US Chess Membership is Required. All US Chess Rules will be followed. 

Players younger than high school age (~14) must be accompanied by an adult.

Format:

One Section

5 Rounds SS; G/30+5 (Clocks will be set with 30 minutes per player, and a 5 second increment that adds back after each move)

Entry Fee: $30. The first 30 players to register in full will receive a free mousepad-material chess board to commemorate the event (A $15-20 value; pieces not included; pictures here). Boards will be given out at the conclusion of the tournament. Players may also register directly with David.

1st - $100

Top U1801 - $42

Top U1501 - $40

Top U1201 - $38

Top U900* - $36

Top U600* - $34

Biggest Upset - $10

 

Unrated players: In lieu of a published regular rating, the tournament director reserves the right to use live regular or quick USCF ratings for pairing and prize eligibility purposes. *Unrated players are not eligible for the Top U900, Top U600 prize, or Biggest Upset prize. 

Schedule

Onsite Registration and Check-In: 9:00am-9:45am

Round 1: 10:00am

Round 2: 11:30am

Lunch Break is between Rounds 2 and 3

Round 3: 1:45pm

Round 4: 3:00pm

Round 5: 4:30pm

 

The tournament is estimated to conclude around 5:45pm. 

Players arriving after registration will receive one half-point bye and will be paired in subsequent rounds. Half-point byes may be requested for any round during registration only (2 max).
