A player may take a bye (skip a round and receive a half point) in any round; all byes must be requested before the end of round 2 and cannot be changed after that.
Sections by rating: U1200, U700
NWSRS rated
Unrated players may play in either section
IMPORTANT: Before you register, please look up your player's NWSRS rating here, then choose the appropriate section when you register. If your player's US Chess or NWSRS rating is 700-1199, they must play in the U1200 section. If your player's US Chess or NWSRS rating is 1200 or higher, they are NOT eligible to play in this U1200 scholastic tournament, and might consider playing in the 2-Day Booster section of the Governor's Cup instead.
Prizes
Trophies for the top 5 places in each section; medal to plus scores (3 or more points).
Trophies to top 2 school teams in each section. 2 or more members make a team, top 3 scores on the team count toward team score.
Entry Fees
$20 online by 10/10, $30 after that and at the door until 9:15 a.m.
Players who arrive after 9:15 a.m. will receive a half point bye for round 1 and be paired for round 2
Registration
Register online at the link. Mailed entries must be postmarked by 9/30/2024, and should include player name, player grade, section they’re registering for, parent name, full address, parent phone and email. Checks payable to and mailed to Chess Weekend, 21694 Doud Ct., Frankfort, IL 60423
Schedule
On-site registration from 8:30-9:15 am.
Round 1 begins at 10 am, following rounds ASAP
Awards will be given out shortly after each section ends.
Other information
Please bring sets, boards and a chess clock if you have one.
There is no designated lunchtime with ASAP rounds. Food options are available at the hotel. Please stay nearby for the start of next round.
All players are likely to play all rounds regardless of results!
This event is being held in conjunction with the 2024 South Dakota Governor’s Cup, a US Chess rated tournament. The Governor’s Cup is perfect for adult players, stronger youth players, and players who prefer slower games. US Chess membership is required to play in the Governor’s Cup.
