We celebrate International Chess Day on July 20, a day that was born from an idea the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) had. Chess lovers around the world celebrate their favorite game on this day each year, in a tradition spanning more than 50 years.

USCF rated, unrateds welcome, but you must be a USCF member to participate

WHEN :  JULY 20th 09:00 a.m CHECK IN TIME.

WHERE : VINE COMMUNITY CHURCH  4655 Bethelview Rd, Cumming, GA 30040

FORMAT 4 round Swiss, G/40, d5;  4 Rounds. 

1 day schedule:  Round 1 - 10:00am, Round 2 : 11:30 a.m. Pizza Break Round 3 -1:30 p.m. Round 4 - 3.00 p.m. 

ENTRY FEE:  $50.00.  After July 4th , $60.00 

3 SECTIONS: Championship 1900 and up; Challengers 1899-1500; Moving Up U1500. NOTE: If less than 10 players in a section, for round two, that section may be merged with another and the prize money including 1st place are NOT guaranteed.

 

TOTAL PRIZE FUND $1,000:   1st place in each section is guaranteed if not merged or cancelled and at least 8 players.  2nd place based on 50 paid entries in all sections combined.

 

Championship 1st $300; 2nd $150.00. Challengers 1st $225; 2nd $100. Moving Up 1st $125; 2nd $75. Un-rateds may play in any section but are limited to winning $100 except in the top section where they are eligible for all prizes.

 

 

PLAYING UP: If you are rated U1900 but are at least 1700 you may play up into the Championship section for $15.  If you are rated U1500 but are at least 1300 you may play up into the Challengers section for $15.

 

CANCELLATION:  You may cancel up to 24 hours before the beginning of round 1 and get a refund of what you paid minus $10, or you may apply the entire amount towards a future entry fee.

 

BYES: One ½ point bye available, must be declared before the beginning of round 2.  No last round byes except for zero point byes.

CHESSTRONICS ACADEMY:   Chesstronics, Cumming GA only ‘brick and mortar’ chess venue is dedicated to providing a quality, high tech, chess playing experience for players of all levels, and their parents.  Centrally and conveniently located at 1675 Peachtree Parkway Suite#180, Cumming GA - 30041   Just inside 400 North Exit 13 and 141 South 2 miles. The Venue  VINE COMMUNITY CHURCH is located Exit 13,  Bethelview Road.    Plenty of FREE parking.
